Breakthrough Central Texas holds visitor's day, helps local students plan for college

Breakthrough Central Texas held its visitor's day on Saturday, March 7, allowing students to get a chance to see how they can get help getting to and through college.

The event brings volunteers from all over the city together to show students what opportunities are available to them. The program focuses on helping students who are the first in their families to go to college. They've experienced a large amount of success so far and they say events like these help bring publicity to the program and how it can make a difference.

"Our students work hard every day, attend programs outside of the school day, focus on their path to college, and because of their hard work and determination, they're achieving remarkable success for themselves and their families. Our students are 7 times more likely to earn a college degree compared to similar peers, and all credit goes to them and their hard work," said Michael Griffith the Executive Director at Breakthrough Central Texas.

Breakthrough can start helping students as early as sixth grade. The organization helps students in AISD, Manor ISD, and Del Valle ISD.

They're accepting applications right now.
