Everybody Wants Some opens SXSW
The 30th anniversary of South by Southwest is officially underway and this year the festival is focusing on film and technology.
Director Richard Linklater, who directed the 1993 cult classic Dazed and Confused, kicked off the film portion of the festival at the Paramount Theatre with the premier of his latest film “Everybody Wants Some.”
The buzz around the film stems from its ties to the Austin-based flick Dazed and Confused. Although it is not a direct sequel to the film, “Everybody Wants Some” is a ‘spiritual sequel.’
The comedy flick takes place in the 1980’s and follows a group of friends in college. Just like “Dazed” the film was shot in Austin and features a number of cast members who call the city home. Which is why the cast felt the premier was the perfect film to open the 30th anniversary of the festival.
“There could not be a better film to open this premier, you know?” Will Brittain, star in “Everybody Wants Some”, said “It’s SXSW, Richard Linklater, Texas film maker, grandfather of the Austin Film Society. You couldn’t ask for a bigger film to open a bigger festival for Texas.”
There are a number of other premiers schedule to take place during the next nine-days of South by Southwest.
As for Linklater’s latest film, it is scheduled to open in theatres on April 1st. To see more from the red carpet and to hear from the stars of the film, you can go to our YouTube page: FOX 7 Austin.
