All schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District were shut down after officials say they received an electronic threat. The e-mail threatened several schools.

Officials said some school districts around the country also received the same or similar threats around the same time.

It's very difficult for school administrators and school police to weed out the credible threats from the hoaxes. That's because every threat has to be taken seriously, at least initially.
