AUSTIN, Texas - Radio host, Bobby Bones performed at the Route 91 Harvest Festival on Saturday.
Monday morning, he spoke with FOX 7 after hearing from artists and fans who were at the event during the mass shooting. He also had something to say about the upcoming ACL Festival set to take place in Austin this weekend.
"For us it's awful in a lot of ways,” said Bobby Bones.
Radio host Bobby Bones spoke with FOX 7 from his studio Monday after concluding a show absent of music.
"It shook me. We came on the air and didn't quite know what kind of show we were going to do. The details hadn't flushed themselves out,” he said.
Bobby, who performed at the country music festival in Las Vegas on Saturday, took calls from those who were there during the shooting including artists like Jake Owen who was standing by the stage.
"He said to us that he thought it was some kind of pyro that wasn't going off correctly or a firework. Once he figured out what it was he ran onto the bus. The bus he was in got hit with bullets. The stage got hit with bullets. We had listeners that we met in Vegas when we were playing the night before that stayed the extra night and some people they were with one was shot in the leg. Everyone described it the same way. It was pandemonium. No one knew where it was coming from or where to go,” he said.
Three bands who joined Bobby in the lineup--Midland, Brothers Osborne and Luke Combs--are set to play at the Austin City Limits Music Festival that starts this weekend.
Combs and Brothers Osborne tweeted to fans saying they were okay.
Brothers Osborne saying in a statement don't let a deranged coward take away from your happiness and the emotions experienced before the tragedy.
Bobby echoed that with this message regarding ACL.
"I think with Austin City Limits Music Festival coming up it will for sure be in the minds of people, but I don't think it's going to keep people from playing. I think we all come from the same mindset we're not going to let this guy or anyone else stop what we do and if we do, then what they're trying to do works successfully. I know from our side. I know Brothers Osborne, Luke Combs. And I haven't talked to them directly. I assume knowing then they'll be there and they'll play harder than ever. There's a lot of resilience in music. There's a lot of resilience in country music and even if you're watching thinking to yourself should I still go to the festival, the answer's yes. Yes, yes, yes you should go,” said Bobby.
