Hays County: Inmate who escaped received help from girlfriend

SAN MARCOS, Texas— Hays County authorities are searching for an inmate who escaped custody from the Hays County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday. They now believe his 32-year-old girlfriend facilitated the escape.

Omar Maya-Rangel, 29, was doing landscape work at the Hays County Law Enforcement Center when he reportedly escaped shortly after 1 p.m. on Dec. 2. The center is located on 1307 Uhland Road in San Marcos.

Authorities believe Marinda Seawright (also known as Starla Beall or Rosemary Decker), 32, provided transportation for Maya-Rangel from the San Marcos center. The two have been involved in a relationship for some time and are likely traveling together, according to officials.

Hays County officials describe Maya-Rangel as a Hispanic male, whose last known residence was in the Kyle area. Seawright is described as a White female who provided a ride in a silver Pontiac passenger vehicle with paper plates— the number is unknown.

A warrant has now been issued for the arrest of both Maya-Rangel and Seawright; Maya-Rangel for escaping and Seawright for permitting or facilitating the escape.

Maya-Rangel was serving time for theft and credit card abuse charges. Officials said he does not appear to be a threat to the community.

Authorities are asking the community to contact the Hays County Sheriff’s Office at 512-393-7896 if you have any information regarding Maya-Rangel and/or Seawright.
