Homicide investigation: Man found dead at North Austin CapMetro bus stop

The Austin Police Department is investigating after a man was found dead at a North Austin CapMetro bus stop early Tuesday morning.

What we know:

APD posted on social media about the incident at just before 9 a.m. 

The investigation is going on near the 1000 block of Norwood Park Boulevard.

APD later said in a press briefing that the investigation began with a check welfare call at around 5:30 a.m. from a CapMetro bus driver.

The driver reported finding a person down at the bus stop with blood around them.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a man with obvious trauma to his body and he was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:34 a.m.

The man has been described as a white male in his 60s to 70s.

His death is being investigated as Austin's 45th homicide of 2026.

What we don't know:

APD does say this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

However, APD did not release any suspect information or any specifics on what type of trauma the man suffered or where the trauma was on his body.
