Man charged with murder in connection to deadly fiery crash

Police have arrested Dedric Dixon and charged him with first degree murder in the death of Carlos Swist.

On March 1 at around 7 a.m., the Austin Police Department responded to a single vehicle crash in the 4600 block of Springdale Road When officers arrived they discovered a white van engulfed in flames with a single person inside.

The driver of the van, later identified as 43-year-old Swist, was declared dead at just before 8 a.m.

The Vehicular Homicide Unit was called to investigate and it found evidence from the van and Swist that Swist died from a firearm related injury and that was what caused the crash. Homicide investigators then continued the investigation.
