Man convicted of killing 3 women, wrapping bodies in bags

CLEVELAND (AP) — A convicted sex offender has been found guilty of killing three women whose bodies were found wrapped in garbage bags in a case that raised fears that another serial killer was hunting for victims in the Cleveland area.

The jury deliberated for about a day before convicting Michael Madison of aggravated murder and kidnapping Thursday.

The same jury now will decide whether to recommend a death sentence.

Madison was arrested in 2013 after the bodies were found near his East Cleveland apartment building.

His attorney said Madison didn't plan the slayings and was often confused.

The discovery of the bodies drew national attention to the possibility that another serial killer like Anthony Sowell was on the prowl in Cleveland. Sowell was convicted in 2011 of killing 11 women.
