Officials say that the remains of missing Williamson County Sheriff's K9 Chico were found on March 28 at around 4:15 p.m.
A Florence Police Department officer found Chico's remains partially in a culvert covered by debris in a drainage ditch at FM 970 and SH 195.
Officials believe that Chico drowned not long after he escaped his enclosure. They were able to identify Chico by his collar.
In a press release, the Williamson County Sheriff's Office says, "This is a sad day for the Sheriff's Office, as all employees were hoping for his safe return."
Chico will be cremated and memorialized at a private service in the coming week.
Chico had broken out of his kennel sometime before 10 a.m. on March during severe thunderstorms that swept through Williamson County. He had last been seen in the area of Elmo Street in Florence.
