Gourmia is recalling about 175,951 of their stainless steel 9 Slice Digital Air Fryer Ovens because the units’ doors can unexpectedly close while removing hot food.

What we know:

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recall affects the model GTF7530, with UPC code 810002862779. The stainless steel ovens feature two spring-loaded glass French doors with metal handles. Recalled units can be identified by the model and UPC numbers on the packaging or the label on the back.

Big picture view:

Gourmia has received 57 reports of the oven doors closing unexpectedly while consumers were retrieving food. The incidents resulted in 40 burn injuries to the hands and wrists, according to the CPSC recall notice.

Why you should care:

Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled ovens immediately and contact Gourmia for a free repair kit. The company said the kit includes an added doorstop and installation guides that can help prevent the doors from closing unexpectedly.

The backstory:

The ovens were sold for about $150 at Target stores nationwide and on Target’s website for the past five years until this past June.
