North Austin apartment fire leaves 2 children, 3 adults hospitalized

AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - The Austin Fire Department says about 50 people have been displaced and five people have been hospitalized after a fire at a North Austin apartment complex.

The fire started at the Avesta Salon Apartments in the 8800 block of North I-35 early Monday morning.

Investigators said the flames caused heavy damage to building 3.

Austin Travis County EMS said three adults and two children were sent to the hospital with smoke inhalation and burns.

A pregnant woman was also transported, according to AFD.

Officials say the cause of the fire has been ruled accidental and that it was started by improperly discarded somking material.
