AUSTIN, Texas - With the oncoming winter storm, many people in Austin spent Monday preparing for the weather.
Austin has seen its fair share of cold weather already this winter.
“This is the third snow that we're preparing for now,” said Liz Sotts who has lived in Austin since the 1980s.
That means people have had some practice preparing for the ice and cold.
“Just try to put as much in the refrigerator and inside the house as I can. Just stay off the roads and away from other people,” said Richard Kriese who lives in Austin.
“Just get all my gloves and earmuffs and jackets and layers ready and throw a bunch of blankets over the plants and cover up the water facets outside,” Sotts said.
Crowds of customers filled up H-E-B grabbing some last minute groceries and stocking up on things like water and firewood.
Grocery carts created traffic jams as customers waited in long lines to check out.
“Well it's rare, so people overreact, but I understand. I don't want to be out amongst people here,” Kriese said.
Several families soaked up the sun, knowing they might not get another chance for a few days, but people who have been here for years said everything could change in the next 24 hours.
“Because it's Austin. You just never know what it's going to be from cold to hot, it might be spring come noon,” said Christina Rodriguez who was shopping with her grandkids Monday.
