Police warning residents about phone scam in Cedar Park

The Cedar Park Police Department is warning residents that someone is impersonating a lieutenant for the police department as part of a scam. According to police, a suspect is calling residents and asking for important personal information. 

The suspect has been calling residents in Cedar Park and claims there is a 'legal matter' to discuss. The suspect goes onto to tell the victims that they are a lieutenant and need personal information such as birthdays, addresses, etc over the phone. 

The calls are also coming from 512-260-4600 but have a different return number. 

Residents are being urged to be aware and hang up if a caller asks for personal information.
