Buying a home: Where in Texas Gen Z has best chance to purchase a house

Where is the best city in the U.S. for Gen Z to buy a home? Real estate news website Point2 took a look 100 major cities and released its top 10 places.

The cities were ranked on seven metrics:

  • Home price-to-income ratio
  • Median sale price difference
  • Inventory (per 10,000 residents)
  • Share of homes sold above listing price
  • Days on market
  • Homeownership rate
  • Unemployment rate

Austin man falls victim to housing crisis

An Austin man found himself couch surfing and living out of his truck after falling victim to the affordable housing crisis. A new report shows the city of Austin is now on track to meet housing development goals made back in 2017.

The findings show that the following places are where Point2 says Gen Z has the best chance to become homeowners:

  1. Fort Wayne, Indiana
  2. Corpus Christi, Texas
  3. Detroit, Michigan
  4. Laredo, Texas
  5. Memphis, Tennessee
  6. Lincoln, Nebraska
  7. Durham, North Carolina
  8. Fort Worth, Texas
  9. Aurora, Colorado
  10. Scottsdale, Arizona

So where does San Antonio and Austin rank? San Antonio ranked 16th while Austin ranked 51st. 

Dallas ranked 54th while Houston ranked 75th.

New housing affordability report

A new report by the Austin Board of Realtors take a district-by-district look at Austin's housing affordability crisis. Clare Losey joins FOX 7 Austin's John Krinjak to discuss the report in this FOX 7 Focus.
