Seniors help keep the homeless warm with fleece blankets

Seniors in North Austin came together to help keep the homeless population warm over the winter months this week.

88-year-old Pauline Swanberg was one of those making fleece blankets at the senior living community Buckner Villas. This wasn't the first time Pauline has helped those need. Over the years she has crocheted more than 100 items, including blankets and scarves, and given them to family, friends and soldiers overseas.

This time Pauline and the other residents will donate the hand-made fleece blankets to the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless. It was part of their monthly arts and crafts projects.

"It’s putting two things together that I love: crafts and giving back," the 88-year-old said.
