Man shoots, kills another man in self-defense at Southpark Meadows

The Austin Police Department (APD) is investigating a homicide in South Austin.

Police said on May 22, around 9:05 p.m., officers responded to a shooting at a Dairy Queen in the 9300 block of IH 35 SB. The caller said he shot a man dating his child's mother, 19-year-old Efrain Jaimes, after Jaimes attacked the caller.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the caller who cooperated with them.

They did not find a person shot on the scene, however, a second 911 call reported Jaimes was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound. Jaimes died from his injuries at the hospital, police said.

Investigators determined that Jaimes attacked a man known to him, and the man shot Jaimes in self-defense. The case has been turned over to the Travis County District Attorney's office, and no charges will be filed at this time.
