Wells Branch homicide believed to be murder-suicide: sheriff's office

TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas - The Travis County Sheriff's Office says it is investigating what it believes to be a murder-suicide in an apartment in the Wells Branch area.

What we know:

TCSO public information officer Kristin Dark spoke to the media near the scene.

Dark says that deputies were called to the complex in the 3400 block of Shoreline Drive, between Burnet Road and Bratton Lane, about 8:45 a.m. Sept. 23.

An apartment manager conducting official duties went to a unit and found the front door ajar. He tried to talk to the residents and announce himself, but heard nothing and opened the door.

The manager then found a body inside and called 911. Dark says that when deputies arrived, they found two women dead with gunshot wounds inside the home. 

She added that the investigation so far indicates a murder-suicide and that investigators do not have any reason to believe there is a third party involved at this point.

Dark says there were no reports of a disturbance, strange noises or gunshots prior to the manager calling 911 to report finding a body.

It is also likely that the shooting did not happen in the daylight hours, says Dark, judging by the state of the bodies.

What we don't know:

Dark said she did not have the age range of the victims or how the two women were connected.

TCSO also did not have information on how long the women had been residents or if they even did live in the complex.

What's next:

Dark says that a search warrant has been signed and issued and that detectives are currently investigating what led to the shooting.

Detectives are also interviewing residents from nearby units to gather more information as part of the investigation.

TCSO expects to be on scene for a few hours to conduct their investigation.
