Mattress Mack's mattress giveaway to flood victims

Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale is stepping up to help those still rebuilding following the deadly floods over July 4th weekend. He and his company Gallery Furniture will be giving out 400 mattresses to flood victims on Saturday morning in Lago Vista.

What they're saying:

Most people know him for his furniture, but to Texans, Mattress Mack is better known for showing up when it counts.

Jim McIngvale started Gallery Furniture with $3500 and a dream.

" I started this furniture company in 81, my wife and I, and here we are, 44 years later, still at it and we like to take care of customers. We like to care of the communities," said McIngvale.

Decades later, that mission hasn’t changed and now he's answering a new call — this time from families devastated by flooding in the Texas Hill Country.

"We want to be part of the community and be an asset to the communities in which we live, work, and play and all over Texas for that matter. So that's the overriding concern is to make a difference for the team members and the communities," said McIngvale.

Since the disaster hit, Mattress Mack's team has been on the ground in some of the hardest-hit areas—helping families sift through debris and listening to their stories. Gallery Furniture also collected non-perishable items from its customers to send multiple relief trucks stocked with supplies to impacted areas.

"One of my mentors, Dr. Bruce Perry said the best remedy for trauma is sleep, but one of the hardest things to do after you've incurred trauma is to sleep. And it's triply compounded when your mattress has been floated away. So we're trying to help people to sleep better with these mattresses," said McIngvale.

" We hope that it brightens their life, brightens our day. They've had obviously a devastating time that July 4th. We want to be a beacon of hope for the people over there that somebody cares. We do care as does all Texans care. And hopefully this mattress will help them sleep better, start healing from the trauma," he added.

For him, this effort is about more than mattresses—it’s about bringing hope, rest, and relief to communities in crisis.
