Whether it’s hitting the roads or hitting the skies nearly four million Texans are expected to travel this Thanksgiving holiday.
Wednesday’s traffic had a rough start with three 18-wheeler crashes on IH-35 Southbound. But the traffic didn’t delay the Velasco family headed to California for Turkey Day.
"We were surprised about that the parking and everything was so easy,” Morton Velasco said.
ABIA anticipated an increase of flyers this year with eight non-stop flights and to help streamline the process the airport opened up a new south terminal. Isaiah Edmunds who was traveling to San Francisco late Wednesday arrived three hours early to board his flight.
"It literally took three to five minutes. I was expecting it to be a lot worse," said Edmunds.
Airport staff said their highest point of traffic was Wednesday morning, they also anticipate large numbers on Friday. The Canfield family said they were pleasantly surprise with encountering minimal traffic.
"We are just looking forward to meeting family and being with family," said Annabeth Canfield.
