UT welcomes students with Mooov-In Weekend

Its move in weekend at the University of Texas.

More than 50,000 students will be returning to town and settling into their new homes on campus.

To help with the transition UT held their annual weekend long tradition Mooov-In, where students, faculty, and staff welcomed and helped move new and returning students into their residence halls on campus. 

"This transition can be difficult because our students are coming from all over the country local and as far away as all six contents except Antarctica," said Dr. Brandon Jones, University Housing and Dinning Associate Director.

On Sunday morning hugs were given as parents helped prepare their kids for the start of college and, for many, living independently for the first time.

"I probably won't feel it until I'm at the dorm at night by myself. It's a big deal since I'm the eldest daughter so it's also the first time for my family," said Peggy Chiang, UT Freshmen.

As Chiang gets ready for her first time college experience, seasoned senior Lashaun Oyibo is getting ready for her last semester. She said seeing all the new freshmen moving in and saying their goodbyes reminded her of how she felt her freshmen year.

"The first time I moved in my parents came and my sister came I was very nervous but now I think I got it down," said Oyibo.

Not only is the annual dash from car to dorm at UT a lesson in logistics.

But for parent, Sameer Cholayil helping his oldest son get settled in was also an exciting time.

"It's good memories everybody in India are waiting to see pictures," said Cholayil.
