The White House says President Trump will attend the dignified transfer of the six Army Reserve soldiers who were killed Sunday when a drone hit a command center in Port Shuaiba, Kuwait, one day after the U.S. and Israel launched Operation Epic Fury.
"President Trump intends to attend the dignified transfer of these American heroes to stand in grief alongside their families," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Wednesday during a press briefing.
A date has not been announced for the dignified transfer.
The Pentagon released their names earlier this week:
- Sgt. 1st Class Nicole Amor, 39, of White Bear Lake, Minnesota.
- Capt. Cody Khork, 35, of Winter Haven, Florida.
- Sgt. Declan Coady, 20, of Des Moines, Iowa.
- Chief Warrant Officer 3 Robert Marzan, 54, of Sacramento
- Maj. Jeffrey O’Brien, 45, of Waukee, Iowa.
- Sgt. 1st Class Noah Tietjens, 42, of Bellevue, Nebraska.
All six were assigned to the 103rd Sustainment Command based in Des Moines, Iowa.
U.S. Military Dignified Transfer
Big picture view:
The dignified transfer ritual at Dover Air Force Base is conducted for every U.S. military member who dies in the theater of operation while in the service of their country.
The dignified transfer is not a ceremony; rather, it is a solemn movement of the transfer case by a carry team composed of military personnel from the fallen member's respective service.
During the process, transfer cases draped with the American flag holding the remains of fallen soldiers are carried from the military aircraft that transported them to Dover to an awaiting vehicle to transport them to the mortuary facility at the base. There, the fallen service members are prepared for their final resting place.
