The wife of a man on trial for murder of a retired IBM executive took the stand Friday.
Phillip Liberty was shot inside his West Austin home in 2015.
Stacey Pentland took the stand Friday to testify.
Her husband Irwin is on trial for the murder of 75-year-old Phillip Liberty.
Liberty was found dead with a gunshot wound in November of 2015. He and Irwin were friends.
While testifying Pentland described her wishes of no guns in the house after losing her father to suicide. However, when officers executed a search warrant, they found a rifle case in her garage.
Prosecutor: "Do you know why it was there?"
Pentland: "No."
Pentland says she later found more gun parts.
Pentland: "I found a scope in my garage when i was moving."
Pentland: "What else?"
Pentland: "A mounting device."
Prosecutor: "Were you surprised?"
Pentland: "Yes."
Pentland also described her mother-in-law with a white ammunition canister.
Prosecutor: "Did she indicate to you it was something she didn't want to talk about?"
Pentland: "Yes."
Prosecutor: "Did you ever see that ammo canister again?"
Pentland: "No."
More lies came out.
She says he told her he was in law school at St. Mary's in San Antonio the majority of their relationship. He would leave for school at 9am and return in the evening.
"I do not know why he would lie to me over three years," said Pentland.
About the morning of November 18th--the day after Liberty's body was found...
"He told me he was going to have coffee at Phil's house," said Pentland.
Regarding finances, Pentland said they lived paycheck to paycheck on her salary alone. Yet she says after he was questioned about the murder he came home with $8-thousand dollars in cash.
Jurors learned yesterday he made four fraudulent transactions with checks from Liberty’s accounts totaling $21-thousand dollars in the days leading up to Liberty’s body being found.
