Winter Wonderland in Central Texas

It was a winter wonderland for Central Texas residents Thursday night, as the area got a rare snow fall. In some parts, snow is still visible.

Austinites couldn't believe it was snowing as the hashtag SnowInAustin trended. It’s not a very common sight to see in the Central Texas area and the last time Austin had any snow was about four years ago.

Thursday night the Austin-Bergstrom area saw more than an inch of snow fall. It was the snowiest December day on record out at the airport. Meanwhile, the Corpus Christi area saw up to five inches of snow.

The City of Austin activated its cold weather shelter plan, transporting anyone who needed a place to sleep to locations offsite. Many schools closed or were put on a delay, and the Texas Department of Transportation encouraged drivers to take it slow in case of icy roads.
