The number of our area football teams in the playoffs has dwindled after three rounds, but we still have a few remaining that can make some noise.

Undefeated Cedar Park, the state's top-ranked class 5A team is still going strong.  They remained perfect at 13-0 after shutting out Edcouch-Elsa 42-0. The Timberwolves will look to keep things rolling this Friday night at 7:30 when they take on Calallen at the Alamodome down in San Antonio.

We're guaranteed to have a 5A team in the state semifinals with Vandegrift and Vista Ridge hooking up in the quarterfinals. This will be a rematch from a district game back in October where Vandegrift won that high-scoring affair 63-55. Those two will kick things off this Friday night at 7:30 in Round Rock at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex.

In the 6A playoffs the 13-0 Lake Travis Cavaliers blewout Waco Midway for the second time this season to advance to the fourth round. The Cavs will head down to Texas A&M’s Kyle Field this Saturday afternoon at 2 to take on Rockwall.

UT commit Sam Ehlinger and the Westlake Chaparrals also moved on to the 6A state quarterfinals. Ehlinger accounted for 5 touchdowns in the chaps 56-7 blowout win over North Mesquite. The chaps will now meet up with Atascocita this Saturday afternoon at the Berry Center in Cypress.
