Central Texas weather: Storm system moving through eastern counties

A storm system is moving through Caldwell, Bastrop and Fayette counties with 40 mph winds and penny-sized hail. FOX 7 Austin meteorologist Adaleigh Rowe has your forecast.

The storm system is continuing to move east of I-35 in eastern Central Texas counties, like Bastrop and Caldwell.

So far, one severe thunderstorm in Caldwell County brought 60 mph gusts and near quarter-sized hail. That system weakened slightly and, as of 6:45 p.m., is over Bastrop County with the threat of penny-sized hail and 40 mph gusts. A section of Bastrop County and Lee County is currently under a severe thunderstorm warning until 7:45 p.m.

There is still the threat of more severe storms from now until about 10 pm, with the highest risk east of I-35.

You might be wondering why that's where the most activity is. It is because eastern counties had a little sunshine today, resulting in warmer temperatures and more instability to bust through the cap or layer of warm air aloft.

The rest of the viewing area, including Travis County, has been cloudy all day. However, we should all still stay weather aware.
