AFD out this weekend to "Fill the Boot" for muscular dystrophy

AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - Austin Fire Department firefighters will be out at various intersections around the city this weekend collecting donations as part of their annual "Fill the Boot" donation drive.
Donations will be collected from Friday, April 12 through Sunday April 14 for the Austin chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
"No amount is too big or too small, so we encourage you to give what you can," AFD said in a Facebook post. "And all of the money collected here stays here!"
This year's drive marks 65 years since the first door-to-door collecions by firefighters in 1954. Since then over 100,000 firefighters across the country have filled their boots and collected more than $650 millions for the MDA.
Founded in 1950, the MDA works to help people affected with muscular dystrophy, ALS and other related neuromuscular diseases through innovations in science and care, according to the association's website. The MDA has committed more than $1 billion to fund neuromuscular disease research and accelerate the discovery of new therapies and cures.
