Austin mother holds baby for the first time after recovering from COVID-19

AUSTIN, Texas - A touching moment happened in Austin when a mother got to hold her baby for the first time after recovering from coronavirus.

Brenda, the mother, was admitted to Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin's emergency room with worsening COVID-19 symptoms when she was 35 weeks pregnant. The hospital says she underwent a C-section before being placed on a ventilator for 24 days in the ICU.

Over a month after visiting the hospital's emergency room, Brenda was discharged and was able to be with her new baby who she had not yet had the opportunity to hold.

Over a month after coming into the emergency department with worsening COVID-19 symptoms, Brenda was discharged home to her family and new baby she had not yet held.

The hospital says their teams were humbled to be present for the special moment, "Our teams were humbled by the opportunity to cheer her as she left the hospital and held her baby for the first time."
