Two people, including a child and an adult, died Saturday afternoon when a vehicle drove onto a soccer field at a Wichita, Kansas sports complex, police confirmed.

What we know:

Wichita Police said a vehicle drove through a soccer game at Stryker Soccer Complex, killing two and injuring several others.

Capt. Aaron Moses said Sedgwick County dispatchers began receiving multiple 911 calls about the situation at around 3:25 p.m.

The two fatalities were confirmed at the scene, he said.

What they're saying:

"This is a tragedy," Moses said, adding that the vehicle involved remained at the scene and the driver of the vehicle was in police custody. "There is no additional ongoing threat to the public from that driver."

There were two youths in the vehicle as well as the driver, police said.

Police posted on their Facebook page that they are looking for any photos or videos anyone at the game may have taken as they investigate what happened.

What we don't know:

Moses did not identify the two victims killed in the crash or provide their ages, pending notification of family.

He also declined to identify the driver of the vehicle or provide any details on why the vehicle drove onto the field.

It was not immediately clear how the vehicle got through gates onto the soccer field, but he said "that’ll be part of what we look into" as the investigation continues.

Police said they expect to have another briefing later in the evening.
