ROUND ROCK, Texas - The city of Round Rock says as of 7:30 p.m., police cleared the scene and the public has been allowed to return to East Main Street.
East Main Street between Mays and Sheppard streets had been closed due to Round Rock police K9s alerting on a mailbox.
The city says in a statement that around 4:30 p.m., multiple K9 units alerted on a mailbox on East Main Street between Lampasas and Sheppard streets. Police, as a precaution, cleared the area where vendors for the city's Christmas Family Night were staged.
Austin Police Department's Bomb Squad was called in to assist with sweeping the area.
The city says Christmas Family Night events on the Main Stage west of Mays Street are continuing as scheduled. Organizers are asking for attendees' patience while police investigate the cause of the alert before allowing vendors to return and businesses to reopen.
