Former AFD lieutenant pleads guilty to invasive video recording

Former Austin firefighter James Baker entered a guilty plea to invasive visual recording on Friday morning.

According to District Attorney Margaret Moore, Baker was accused of filming a female firefighter while in a changing room at a fire station without her permission. At the time, Baker was the victim's supervising lieutenant.

Moore's office says the recording "did not constitute a violation of prohibitions on photographing intimate areas as defined by law because it did not depict any portion of the victim's anatomy below her neck." The recording was also found by the female firefighter and turned over to the Austin Police Department, meaning Baker didn't see the video.

As part of the plea deal, Baker will permanently surrender his firefighter, EMT and EMT instructor credentials. Sentencing will take place on Nov. 2, 2018.
