The Austin Fire Department responded to a high rise structure fire in downtown Austin on Wednesday.

At 1:58 p.m. Austin Fire Info tweeted the fire had been knocked down and crews were checking for extensions. Austin police are urging the public to avoid the area of 7th and 8th Streets from Congress to San Jacinto Boulevard.

Austin Fire Info said on Twitter the fire took place on the ninth floor at 720  Brazos Street. Employees of the building say the fire started because of generator repairs.

This is a developing story.
