NEW YORK - Kid Cudi is expected to take the stand this week in Sean "Diddy" Combs’ federal sex-trafficking and racketeering trial in New York, following explosive testimony from Combs’ ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura.

Prosecutors announced Tuesday that the Grammy-nominated rapper and actor would testify as early as Wednesday. His appearance follows claims that Combs once threatened to blow up Cudi’s car after discovering the two were romantically involved.

Why is Kid Cudi involved in the trial?

What we know:

Prosecutors said Cudi is expected to testify Wednesday or Thursday in the ongoing trial. His appearance follows testimony from Ventura, who told the court that in 2012, Combs found messages between her and Cudi while going through her phone during one of the couple’s "freak-off" hotel parties. She said Combs threatened to blow up Cudi’s car, among other threats.

After Ventura filed a civil lawsuit last year detailing the allegations, a representative for Cudi confirmed that a car of his had exploded around that time, telling media outlets, "This is all true." Cudi is expected to testify after George Kaplan, a former Combs employee who Ventura said quit after witnessing abuse.

What we don't know:

It remains unclear whether Cudi will provide additional details beyond confirming the explosion and his past relationship with Ventura. Prosecutors have not said if his testimony will address Combs’ alleged threats or whether law enforcement was ever notified. Combs’ legal team has not publicly responded to Ventura’s claims or to Cudi’s expected testimony.
