GEORGETOWN, Texas - A man was shot and killed by a Georgetown police officer Friday afternoon after a struggle in Georgetown Square, according to the Georgetown Police Department.

What we know:
Police said the shooting happened in the 100 block of West Seventh Street. The department said there was no active shooter and no ongoing threat to the public, pushing back on social media rumors that incorrectly suggested there was an active shooter on the square.
Officers were dispatched to the area about 12:49 p.m. for a suspicious-person investigation after callers reported a man was jumping on vehicles and behaving erratically. The man was found by officers after they arrived at about 12:55 p.m.
During a violent struggle, the man attempted to take a holstered handgun from one of the officers, according to the department’s preliminary investigation.
Another officer then fired, striking the man.
No active shooter threat to public

Officers and emergency medical personnel provided aid before the man was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The department did not release the identity of the man or the names of the involved officers. Police said the information released so far is preliminary and could change as investigators conduct interviews and review evidence.
