Officials extend Austin waterway ban

Officials say that due to the continued discharge of excessive amounts of water from Mansfield Dam that Interim Fire Chief Tom Dodds has extended the waterway ban through noon Nov. 6.

All navigational and commercial boating and all recreational use of what's called the "Flood Ban Area" hsa been banned. The ban applies to the following waterways and lakes:

  • Lake Austin from Mansfield Dam to Tom Miller Dam
  • Lady Bird Lake
  • Colorado River downstream of Longhorn Dam

Dodds say in his order that as the LCRA continues to discharge water from Mansfiled Dam it is creating conditions including high and swift waters combined with debris which is making use of all waterways within the City of Austin unsafe.

Officials say should conditions warrant a review before Nov. 6 they will do so and make an announcement on any changes.
