Anyone looking to escape this season's gray, rainy weather in the Bay Area can set their sights on the Aloha state.

Southwest Airlines has announced its service to the Hawaiian Islands is now on sale with flights as low as $49 - which could allow travelers extra money to pack in more excursions, luaus and frozen drinks.

Flights between Oakland and San Jose to the Hawaiian islands are as low as $49 one way.

“Beyond these introductory fares that celebrate our significant initial investment in serving the Islands, our Hawaii Customers will experience our everyday value in low fares that offer everybody the same
brand standards: no fees to change your ticket and two checked bags fly free*,” said Tom Nealon,
Southwest Airlines’ President. “We’re focused on bringing Hawaii an authentically Southwest
experience with comfort across all seating—for every Customer—along with in-cabin snack
enhancements for our flights between the State of Hawaii and the U.S. mainland.”

This comes after Southwest completed a test flight in early February from Oakland to Hawaii. Southwest proved to the FAA that they can do long-haul, over ocean flights just like the other larger airlines that serve the Hawaiian islands.

Currently, Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines dominate Hawaii service out of Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose airports.

With all the hype - flights are sure to sell out fast.
