Two fires at same North Austin apartment complex over a year apart
AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - A fire on April 1 in North Austin displaced nearly 50 people at the Avesta Solano Apartments just off of I-35 and there was a fire at the same place last year. Officials say both were caused by smoking materials that were improperly discarded.
In January 2018 a fire at the Avesta Solano Apartments displaced 30 people and was ruled accidental.
There are a lot of similarities between the 2018 fire and the one that happened yesterday.
Both were accidentally caused by either a cigarette or some other kind of smoking material and both caused thousands of dollars worth of damage.
While both fires displaced numerous people, no one was injured in the 2018 fire. Five people were hurt in yesterday's fire.
Yesterday's fire damaged five units and the Red Cross says the units are a total loss. The group is helping nine people.
