Saturday was the hottest day of the year so far, and it has been 29 days since the last registered rainfall in Austin. Meteorologist Adaleigh Rowe has your forecast.
AUSTIN - Austin tied its daily heat record on Saturday after reaching 107 degrees, capping an unusually intense late-summer heat wave that will persist into next week alongside an ongoing 29-day dry spell.
Extreme Heat Warning
What we know:
The 107-degree peak tied a record set in 2024 and sits 10 degrees above the seasonal average of 97 degrees.
An extreme heat warning remains in effect through Sunday evening, with temperatures expected to hit 107 degrees again and heat index values reaching up to 110 degrees due to high humidity. A heat advisory will follow, remaining in place through Wednesday.
While radar showed light showers in the Hill Country west of Interstate 35 and heavier rain in East Texas early Sunday, area-wide rainfall accumulations are expected to be negligible. Austin has not seen measurable rain in nearly a month.
Is it going to rain soon?
High pressure continues to dominate the regional weather pattern, but the ridge may shift westward by late week. That shift could bring widely scattered showers Thursday and Friday, with potential rainfall totals reaching up to a third of an inch in some areas. Rain coverage through Wednesday remains under 10%.
Triple-digit high temperatures are projected to continue daily through at least the next week, with morning lows hovering in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Authorities are urging residents to take precautions against heat-related illness by staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, and walking pets early in the morning or late in the evening.
In the Atlantic, we are also tracking three tropical systems, including a disturbance off the West Coast of Africa that carries a 50% chance of development as it moves westward.
