Austin man charged with Aggravated Assault, aims handgun at multiple people
AUSTIN, Texas - According to an affidavit obtained by FOX7 Austin, an Austin man has been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon after he entered a motel and pointed a weapon at multiple people.
Around 11 p.m. on December 19, 24-year-old Felix Camacho-Garcia approached the Candlewood Suites located at 8000 Crosspark Drive. Camacho-Garcia began to kick the entrance door to the motel before a front desk attendant let him in.
Camacho-Garcia began telling the employee that he was going to jail and "didn't care what happened anymore." The employee invited Camacho-Garcia to have a seat in order to calm him down, at which point the employee noticed Camacho-Garcia had a pistol in his hand.
The employee alerted a co-worker who came to the lobby and found Camacho-Garcia facedown on the floor. The co-worker approached Camacho-Garcia but stopped after he was alerted about the handgun.
The other employee alerted 911 of the situation.
Both employees retreated to a room adjacent to the front counter and watched Camacho-Garcia via security camera.
At this point, Camacho-Garcia pointed the gun at the wall the employees were behind while voicing to them that he "wasn't pointing the gun at them." The employees continued to tell Camacho-Garcia that things we're okay, at which he responded "I don't think it will be," and stormed over the counter.
One employee locked themself in a laundry room while the other hid under a table. Camacho-Garcia then proceeded to point the gun directly at the employee under the table and, from ten feet away, ordered him out from under it. Camacho-Garcia continued to point the gun at the employee, but as he looked away the employee was able to lock himself in the laundry room with the other employee.
After not being able to get into the laundry room, Camacho-Garcia began walking through the hotel hallways.
Camacho-Garcia began banging on doors and making loud noises, alerting a guest at the motel. The guest opened his door to see Camacho-Garcia approaching a fire extinguisher box. Thinking there might be a fire in the building, the guest asked Camacho-Garcia about the situation. Camacho-Garcia then pointed the gun at the guest.
The guest closed and locked the door to the room.
Camacho-Garcia approached the room and started banging on the door with the fire extinguisher, telling the guest he "just wanted to talk." He eventually left the guest alone.
Camacho-Garcia was later found unconscious in the hallway with the gun by his side. He was taken into custody without incident, where it was determined that he was heavily intoxicated.
The gun was identified as a Glock 26 9mm semi-automatic pistol.
Both employees told police they were in fear of their lives when Camacho-Garcia pointed the handgun at them. He is being charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
