Businesses in South Austin shopping center suffer fire, smoke damage

An electrical fire in a salon caused fire and smoke damage to at least seven businesses in a South Austin shopping center Friday morning.

The Austin Fire Department were on scene of the fire around 9:50 a.m. According to AFD, the fire originated in the Family Nails Salon in the Stassney Square shopping center.

The fire was ruled accidental, and the cause was determined to be an electrical short of a light fixture. 

No injuries were reported, and the damage to the salon was estimated at $50,000 for the structure and $10,000 for contents.

AFD says the Metros PCS location next door suffered $5,000 in fire control and smoke damage, and five other businesses suffered light smoke damage estimated at $6,000 combined.
