Controversial book ‘Fire and Fury' sells out in Austin

The phones at BookPeople were ringing non-stop for orders of Amazon's number one seller Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House. The book depicts chaos in the oval office and a number of the author's findings as a journalist with deep access.

Fire and Fury gained traction after President Trump read released excerpts, one claiming Bannon called Donald Trump Jr. “treasonous” and “unpatriotic”.

Trump responded immediately on Twitter bashing both the book’s author Michael Wolff and former White House Strategist Steve Bannon. Stating he didn’t authorize access to the White House to Wolff, the book was filled with lies and calling Bannon, ‘Sloppy Steve.’

Trump’s lawyer sent the author a cease and desist letter and the publisher responded with pushing the release date shipment four days early.

The early release date and the book’s attention threw local stores a curve ball.

BookPeople received their normal amount of new copies of the book but wasn’t prepared for the book to sell-out. Steven Bercu, CEO and Co-owner of BookPeople said more than 100 people have placed book reservations for the new shipment Monday.

"It's unusual for a book to get all this attention without anyone having known about it,” said Bercu. "And we'll see over the next few days if we can fulfill all the orders and make sure everybody gets their book and it'll be an interesting read I'll start once we get a free copy."
