Fayette County seizes a million dollars in drugs
Fayette County Sheriff's office Sargeant Randy Thumann seized roughly a million dollars in drugs on Thursday afternoon.
He had stopped a 2005 Chevy Equinox that was headed East on I-10 for a routine traffic stop. The man driving the 2005 Chevy Equinox and his female passenenger, who both have licenses out of El Paso gave Thumann consent to search their SUV.
When he opened the back he says his instincts told him there could be a false compartment. His K-9 partner Lobos was brought over to confirm it. He says there was eleven kilos of meth and cocaine stuffed inside the bumper.
According to the justice department that is one of the most trafficked roads in the U.S. So Thumann says it's possible the people inside the SUV could have ties to a drug cartel in Mexico.
They were both arrested and are being held at the Fayette County Jail. Depending on whether or not they have cartel ties, the case could be turned over to the U.S. Government.
