Wildfires at Fort Cavazos

Crews are fighting wildfires near Fort Cavazos. As of Saturday evening, the fires have spread to about 475 acres.

Fort Cavazos officials have reopened West Range Road as crews continue to battle fires in the area.

The Fort Cavazos Directorate of Emergency Services closed West Range Road between Elijah and Manning Mountain Roads due to heavy smoke from the nearby fires.

Fire crews continue to battle fires in the installation's training range areas. Fires have spread approximately 475 acres over the past several hours.

A fire in the House Creek area has burned more than 75 acres and is currently 85 percent contained. The fire is moving northwesterly.

A second fire in the Clabber Creek area has burned more than 400 acres and is currently 70 percent contained. It is also moving northwesterly.

The fires will continue to be monitored overnight. Currently, there is no immediate threat to life or property.
