Freight train derailment in Taylor

An investigation is underway after a freight train derailed in Taylor.

A Union Pacific spokesperson says the incident happened at 4:30 a.m. as the train was arriving at the Taylor station.

Eight cars derailed and the spokesperson says there were no injuries and no hazardous materials were involved.

The train was carrying industrial sand as its load.

The derailment has caused Amtrak to suspend service between Fort Worth and San Antonio because it uses the same tracks.

Amtrak says it will have charted buses at stations in San Antonio and Fort Worth.

Earlier Amtrak tweeted out that its Texas Eagle Train 21 will be operating as a bus between San Antonio and Fort Worth due to derailment.
