Homeless woman stabbed near UT campus

University of Texas police and Austin police are investigating after a stabbing near campus Monday night.

A 41-year old woman was found with a stab wound at University United Methodist Church on Guadalupe Street around 9:30 p.m. The suspect fled the scene.

The woman was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say the victim was a transient in the area.

APD said they have identified a person of interest, but no arrest has been made. Police describe the suspect as a slightly heavy-set man in his 20s or 30s and stands about 5’5’’ to 5’9’’.

Police are asking the public to call 911 with any information.

UTPD is also reminding everyone to be aware of their surroundings and walk in groups if possible. If you feel unsafe walking to your car, dorm, classroom, or office on campus, call for help. Sure Walk is available seven days a week from 8:30 p.m. until 2:00 a.m.
