Inmate dies at Dell Seton Medical Center

The Travis County Sheriff's Office says an inmate died at an Austin hospital Friday afternoon.

Tyler Grist, 28, of Austin died at Dell Seton Medical Center.

TCSO says corrections officers found Grist unresponsive, but breathing in his cell on August 31. He was taken to the medical clinic, then transported by EMS to Dell Seton.

He was treated in ICU for several days before he died.

Grist has been in custody since July 13 for second-degree felony after Austin fire investigators say he confessed to setting his grandfather's car on fire because he felt a "vendetta" against him. He was later charged with assault causing bodily injury for assaulting an inmate on July 25.

An investigation by Internal Affairs, the Texas Rangers and the Medical Examiner's Office is underway. An autopsy was conducted Sunday and the final report is pending toxicology results.
