Live updates: Rubio appears to rule out reported Iranian peace proposal

A reported proposal by Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the U.S. lifting its ongoing blockade and ending the war. However, it was another apparent condition of the deal that had Secretary of State Marco Rubio telling FOX News on Monday that the U.S. would not accept.

Two regional officials told the Associated Press that Iran’s offer, which was delivered to the U.S. by Pakistani officials, would postpone discussions on Iran’s nuclear program. Rubio explained in the interview that any agreement by the U.S. would have "to definitively prevent them from sprinting towards a nuclear weapon at any point." President Donald Trump has also said that stopping Iran’s nuclear program was one of the main reasons for the conflict.

Germany says US is being ‘humiliated’ by Iran

6:14 a.m. ET: German Chancellor Friedrich Merz spoke with students in the town of Marsberg on the U.S.-Iran conflict on Monday. He said Iranian leaders are humiliating U.S. officials by having envoys travel to Pakistan for negotiations and leaving without results.

"The Iranians are obviously very skilled at negotiating, or rather, very skillful at not negotiating, letting the Americans travel to Islamabad and then leave again without any result," Merz said. "An entire nation is being humiliated by the Iranian leadership, especially by these so-called Revolutionary Guards. And so I hope that this ends as quickly as possible."
