Jamie Foxx, Dan Rather among honorees at Texas Medal of Arts awards

The spotlight was on the arts at the Long Center in Austin Wednesday night.

Texans who have made big contributions to Texas culture were honored at the 2015 Texas Medal of Arts awards.

Oscar winning actor Jamie Foxx and legendary journalist Dan Rather were among the honorees at the ceremony.

Foxx calls Terrell, Texas home and was honored for his contribution to film.

The star-studded evening started around 5:30 p.m.

The ceremony, now in its 8th year, honors Texas legends known for anything from architecture to literary arts and of course film and television.

Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, hosts of FOX's number one NFL broadcast team emceed the event. It may have taken 'All the gold in California' to get there, but the Gatlin Brothers were given the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The other honorees this year were songwriter and producer T Bone Burnett, "Grey's Anatomy" star Chandra Wilson, philanthropist Margaret McDermott, writer Robert Schenkkan, artist Rick Lowe, author and "New Yorker" writer Lawrence Wright, architect Charles Renfro, philanthropist Ruth Altshuler, Spanish-language television pioneer Emilio Nicolas, the Kilgore College Rangerettes dance team, the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group.
