Kyle police offer safety tips to deter car buglaries
The Kyle Police Department is offering some safety tips to help deter car burglaries after officers recently arrested a man who admitted to a rash of car burglaries in the Silverado and Spring Branch neighborhoods.
Chief Jeff Barnett says there were 27 car burglaries over two nights.
The man arrested is identified as 20-year-old Kendall McDowell. Police say McDowell provided police with information on a second burglar who they are now on the lookout for questioning in connection with the incidents.
Chief Barnett is urging residents to remain vigilant because other neighborhoods experienced similar car burglaries after the arrest. He says many of them could have been avoided.
Chief Barnett says residents who park in driveways or on the street should lock their doors every day. Criminals look for the easiest targets.
He also advises people to keep valuables out of sight in a vehicle. If burglars see something they want and the door is locked they may take the risk to break a window. Keeping valuables out of sight or out of the vehicle completely helps deter those who may want to steal items.
Anyone with information on car burglaries should report it to Kyle police at their non-emergency umber at 512-268-3232. Of course if you see a burglary in progress you're asked to call 9-1-1.
