Texas is on alert as people get ready for Tropical Storm Harvey which could reach hurricane levels before making landfall. Local officials are gearing up for the potential powerful storm by reminding everyone about its weather awareness campaign.
A key part of that campaign is getting personalized alerts, including information about evacuations and shelters, to those affected right away.
Officials with the Capital Area Council of Governments gathered yesterday to promote WarnCentralTexas which is a free emergency notification service. Once you sign up you'll get information by text message, email or phone.
The hope is to have 180,000 people across the metro area signed up by the end of September.
Registration only takes a few minutes and you can register here.
