Maywald Christmas Light Display celebrates 10 years of collecting donations

Year after year, a family in Southwest Austin decks out their yard for Christmas.

This has allowed them to help grant the wishes of dozens of sick children in Central Texas.

"You park under the canopy of lights, walk around - and, it's just a very cool experience. You can stay as long as you want to," said Jordan Maywald, creator of Maywald Christmas Light Display.

The Maywald Christmas Light Display is about three and a half acres, with more than 350,000 lights on Twilight Vista.

"One of my favorite's is the giant lighthouse, actually with the lake of lights. There are like 14,000 blue lights on the ground. The lighthouse is like 15 feet tall, I think. My father and I built that years ago," said Jordan.

For the past 17 years, the elaborate light display has drawn crowds of families.

"Oh, man, this is incredible. I mean just the fact that this is a family and a home location is just amazing," said Zach Wallace, visiting from Dripping Springs.

This year, the Maywalds are celebrating 10 years of using their light display to collect donations for the Make a Wish Foundation.

"We've raised over $320,000 in nine years. So, here we are in year 10. Hopefully, we'll raise more. And, we've granted over 40 wishes — kids have gone to Disney World, had room makeovers, went to New York — just all over the place. It's really cool," said Jordan.

The Maywald Christmas Light Display — at 10505 Twilight Vista, Austin, TX,
78736 — is open Sunday through Thursday nights from 6-9 p.m., and from 6-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights through Dec. 28.

Santa will also be making an appearance on Dec. 13 and 14 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

A donation of any amount is required to enter.
